About Corfu

Corfu is the northerly of the Ionian Islands group and the second biggest after Kefalonia and lies at the entrance of the Adriatic Sea, in front of Albania.

Corfu was the first island in Greece to open itself to tourism and has become an international tourism centre with thousands of visitors every year. The island has a population of approximately 130,000 inhabitants and 35,000 are living in the capital

With a wealth of natural beauty, a rich culture that spans centuries and a gentle magnetic appealit is easy to see what draws people back year after year.
The economy of the island depends mainly on the tourism industry. Only a small part of the economy is related to agriculture with as chief products, the olive oil, the wine, vegetables and the unique type of Kum Quat fruit.Corfu Island’s diverse coastline offers beaches that range from glorious sweeps of golden sand and bustling seaside resorts to enchanting white-pebbled coves. Inland the scenery is spectacular, and there is an abundance of charming traditional villages where you still encounter donkeys, occasional traditional costume and of course the gloriously lazy pace of life Greece is so famous for. Corfu island has an immensely long and chequered history. Renowned as a place of beauty, culture and hospitality since ancient times, Corfu plays her part in many ancient myths and legends.

Corfu Town

Corfu Town is dominated by two impressive Venetian fortresses, graced with the inspired architecture of several different cultures and surrounded by the azure Ionian Sea the old town is a delight to explore.. Shopping is excellent and provides for all tastes. From chic little boutiques, hand crafted jewellery, leather,  fair shops or art studios to cheap and cheerful souvenir shops. The Esplanade or “Spianada” is the central square of the town. It was turned by the French occupant into a public square and was designed following the French garden architectural style with many trees and flowers. 


Acharavi is located on a long, sandy/pebble beach with crystal, clear, blue and green waters between Kassiopi and Roda. It is the ideal place for enjoyable and relaxing holidays. In Acharavi you can find a good choice of restaurants, traditional taverns, shops, bars and a disco which can ensure an enjoyable night life. Transfer from airport approx. 1:30min.


Sidari, one of the largest resorts of Corfu, combines a great variety of amenities and a long, sandy beach, surrounded by crystal, clear waters. The center of Sidari is the most  lively part of the resort full of restaurants, shops, video bars two discos. Situated on the north coast of Corfu’s island, Roda is a really peaceful and relaxing beach resort. The sandy and pebble beach of Roda is the longest of the island continuing along the coats to nearby resort Acharavi. This place is suited to families and couples. A mile long shingle beach is the outstanding asset that Barbati has to offer. A few Tavernas on the beach, a supermarket and the occasional gift shop. The main village of Barbati is located up on the main road – about a ten min walk. The shops and Tavernas are positioned on the road side and smaller roads run steeply off to your right down to the beach. The beach is long and the views are stunning from here. To the right you look across to Corfu town. Spot the old town and the forts. You can see the cruise ships docked in the port, just to the right of the main town. On the left the view is of the Albanian coast line where it meets with the Greek mainland.  Transfer from airport approx. 50min. 


Ipsos is one of Corfu’s most popular central resorts. During the day, everybody enjoys the pebble beach along the resort with its water sports. But for young people, life starts at night and Ipsos can satisfy their needs, with plenty of seafront bars and discos. Transfer from airport approx. 40min.


Situated on one of the prettiest stretches of Coastline on the island, just 10 klm north of Corfu Town, Dassia has grown over the past few years on one of Corfu’s most cosmopolitan resorts. The long, shingle beach of the resort with the shallow waters and the variation of restaurants, taverns, cafés, bars and discos can guarantee you a truly enjoyable staying in Dassia. Kontokali & Gouvia

The adjoining resorts of Kontokali and Gouvia lie within a sheltered lagoon just 8 klm from Corfu Town.  The lagoon, once a Venetian harbor, is now an international marina attracting yachts from all over Europe, giving the resorts a cosmopolitan atmosphere. With a variety of shops, bars, restaurants, night clubs, Kontokali and Gouvia offer a broad range of activities for all ages. Glyfada is one of the most popular beaches of the island and is situated 16 km west of Corfu’s capital. It is a large sandy beach where golden sand stretches for miles in beautiful scenery made of impressive rock formations in the sea and trees-covered cliffs. The beach proposes many facilities: sun beds and umbrellas rentals, water sports, and a large range of accommodation, shops and restaurants. Transfer from airport approx. 30min.


The resort of Perama is located on the eastern coast of the island of Corfu, south of the capital, on steeply wooded hills leading down to the coastline.
Accommodations, tourist shops and taverns are available in Perama. Small coves with narrow sandy beaches are forming a chain on the coastline under the village. In the surrounding area is located the famous Achillion Palace, built by the Empress Elizabeth of Austria. Transfer from airport approx. 15min.


Formerly a simple fishing village, it enjoyed immense popularity with the British youth market during the 1980s, along with a notorious reputation. Today mass tourism is in decline and Benitses has become far less raucous and consequently perhaps more appealing to couples. It is, however, a bit ramshackle, and with many shops and sites closed up, it appears that it’s had more prosperous days. Many old village houses remain, often converted to restaurants or apartments. Messonghi & Moraitika

Messonghi and Moraitika located twenty kilometres South from Corfu Town, It is a Traditional Greek village built on a rise on the east coast of Corfu island.
The beach is sandy and the water is clean, calm and deepens gradually – ideal for snorkelling. You will find on the beach and plenty restaurants and tavernas where you can have a refreshing drink, or lunch. Water sports such as rings, banana boat, skiing, paragliding and pedal boats are also available on the beach. During the day the life revolves around the beaches and the water sports and then as night falls the whole resort is one big party. You can find from small typical Greek tavernas serving traditional dishes to luxury restaurants, which serve a variety of menus. At the southern part of Corfu’s island, Kavos is one of the largest resorts and famous mainly to young people all over the world. It is considered as the most entertaining holiday resort of Corfu.
